The article: "Fire and Rain: Forecasting the chaos of weather" refers to Dr. Cunningham's current research as "turning weather predictions into forecasts of fire"[National Geographic, June 2005]
Using computer simulations of fire, and coupling them with conventional weather forecasting methods, Dr. Cunningham and associates hope to provide a tool to aid Foresters in predicting the behavior of controlled burns.
