Over the weekend, I migrated everyone from the old mail server to the new mail server. Please let me know if you have any questions or problems with the new email server.
If you have trouble accessing email with your mail client and you are using pop, please check your server settings to see if ssl is enabled. If ssl isn't enabled, then you will need to enable it.
If you still have problems, you should be able to access your email via webmail until any issues with your mail client can be resolved.
There will soon be documentation on the Computer Support page regarding using filter rules, accessed through webmail, to set up forwarding, vacation, and spam filtering rules. I will let you all know when this is available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you,
Sarah

In response to the SSH issues from past weeks, access to GFDI computers from the outside will be changing yet again.
The change this time will be small. Here are the details:
- Web and email are uneffected. What ever has been working will continue to work.
- SSH communications from the outside will only be allowed to two machines:
kira.gfdi.fsu.edu and port.gfdi.fsu.edu
- After tomorrow, kira.gfdi.fsu.edu will only accept connections directly from FSU machines. This is to allow remote users of MATLAB's graphical interface to continue as previously.
- All ssh connections from the outside world will have to come in through port.gfdi.fsu.edu
For example: a user who wishes to connect to Medea.gfdi.fsu.edu would have to ssh to port.gfdi.fsu.edu and then ssh from port to medea.
Future changes :
One slight change which will come into effect in the next month will be handy for users who use Pine or Mutt to check their GFDI email. It is not currently implemented, but soon users will be able to run "Pine" from port.gfdi.fsu.edu and it will check their email.
The long term goal will be to allow all command line related functions ( other than compiling code or running models) to be ran from port directly.
