My research interests focus on the dynamics of the oceanic finescale, referring to the transition between large-scale geostrophic flows and small-scale turbulence. I am currently studying the weakly nonlinear energy cascade of an internal wave field and how it may be influenced by a geostrophic background flow. Mixing induced by internal waves is regarded as one of the principal mechanisms for the dissipation of the ocean's kinetic energy, which is a key component of the maintenance of the thermohaline circulation.

I have also done some experimental work on the dynamics of rotating, double-diffusive gravity currents. This study aims to improve our understanding of the warm, salty intrusions into the Arctic Ocean.
