Computer Support: Filtering Spam

GFDI: Spam Filtering

We will begin by logging into the new Webmail application: GFDI Webmail.

First, we need to create a folder in which to filter all of our incoming Spam.
Once you have logged into webmail, click Mail on the navigation menu on the left.

Now, at the top of the window, click Folders.

You will see the following (with maybe a few more folders!):

Place a check in the box next to "Inbox". Now, from the drop-down menu, select "Create Folder".

Type Spam in the box that pops up, and click "Ok".

You should see a message confirming that the folder was created:

Now, expand Mail in the left-hand menu, and select "Filters".

Select New Rule.

You will see the following:

Fill out the page as follows:

  1. Rule Name: Spam
  2. Under "Select a field", choose "Self-Defined Header: ". Type "X-gfdi.fsu.edu-MailScanner-SpamScore". Choose "Contains", then type "sssss". Make sure Case Sensitive is selected.
  3. Select "Deliver to folder:" from the menu under Do this:, and choose "Spam" under "Select Target folder".
Your rule should look like the picture below. If it does, click "Save". If not, make the changes necessary and click "Save".

You should see two confirmations: Changes saved. and Script successfully activated. If you do not see both of these messages, then the filter rule has NOT taken affect. If this happens, please email computer support for assistance.

That's it! Don't forget to log out!
