Kira.gfdi.fsu.edu is the dedicated Matlab server at GFDI. As of this writing, (Summer, 2006) we are running Matlab 7.2 (r2006a) Several tool boxes are installed. Access You can get to Kira in two ways. Both of them are through secure shell (SSH). Command Line Only

1. Secure shell into kira.gfdi.fsu.edu from any client.
2. Your home directory is mounted.
3. You can run matlab CLI by typing the command "matlab" at the command prompt.

• Requires a graphical client on your desktop similar to Xwin32.
• Using Cygwin from Windows machines (with X11 apps installed.)

1. Open a Cygwin prompt.
2. Run the comand: "startxwin.bat" . This opens a new window with an "X" in the top left corner.
3. From this new window (you can close the initial one you started with) type the command " ssh -l $username -X kira.gfdi.fsu.edu " . [ Don't forget to replace $username with your real username.] After logging in, you'll be able to run commands on Kira. I usually open an xterm window and then call matlab from the xterm. You can run any graphical command from Kira and have it forward to your client.

1. Only run Matlab applications unless necessary. The resources on Kira are provided specifically for use with Matlab. If you need to use it for anything else, use your judgment, but keep in mind other users may be using it for Matlab. There are plenty of other serves which are available for other needs.
2. If you do need to pre or post process data for Matlab, and it's more efficient to do that processing on Kira, then please feel free to do it there.
