Thank you for persuing an antivirus solution for your computer. This document will show you how to install Sophos Antivirus and make your machine more secure. Begin by double-clicking on the Sophos installer you were provided by Computer Support. You will see the following window. Click "Install":
You will see a Welcome screen. Click Next>
On the "End User License Agreement" window, select "I accept", and click Next.
Leave the Destination Folder on the default setting, and click "Next".
On the Update Source window, enter the username and password you were provided, and click "Next".
Do not check the "Install Firewall" box. Click Next.
Uncheck the box next to "Remove third party..." and click Next.
Ready to install. Click Next.
The installer has completed. Click Finish.
We need to verify that Sophos can update its virus definitions correctly. There should be a blue shield on the right-hand bottom of the screen, and it should blink for a few seconds or minutes after the installer completes. Once the shield has stopped "blinking", right-click on it and select "Update Now". The update window should say "No new files need updating" and should terminate without error. Now we need to configure Sophos: Right-click on the shield at the bottom right corner of the screen. Select "Open Sophos Anti-virus". Select "Configure Sophos Antivirus"
Select "On Access Scanning"
You will see the following:
Select the "Cleanup tab".
Please configure as the following image, and click Ok.
Return to the main screen by clicking "Home" at the top.
Select "Set up a new scan".
Give it a name. Click the box next to "My Computer" to select everything but "My Network Places".
Select "Configure this scan"
Configure the "Options" tab as follows:
Configure the "Cleanup" tab as follows, and click "Ok"
Click "Save".
When you are ready, run the scan by clicking "Start"
