Abstract:

Naturally occurring colloidal particles are involved in many important processes in the subsurface zone. Due to the importance of these processes in the subsurface environment, the transport of colloidal particles has been studied in several disciplines, including soil sciences, petrology, and hydrology, etc. In environmental engineering, colloid release and transport in porous media has been extensively investigated, which is motivated by environmental concerns such as colloid-facilitated contaminant transport. Laboratory colloid mobilization experiments and related facilitated transport observations are presented. Modeling of these processes will also be discussed.
