The purpose is to bring in Computational and Data Science students interested in applying machine learning tools to environmental problems. For this work we are applying the survey capabilities of the Hogarth to sediment transport and river flow.

The data will go through initial processing onboard so they are not expected to manage acoustics, and some version of depth data is handed over at the end of the day.

The students can produce maps and use ML techniques to relate features to erosion benchmarks. Students from these areas otherwise do not get the opportunity to get into the field and gather data. Yet they are a growing part of the future of oceanographic and environmental studies.
